Lycopene is a powerful antioxidant, that shows great promise against cancer. Eating a high lycopene diet decreases the risk of prostate cancer, in men, by 40%. The International Journal of Cancer reveals that lycopene also protects against cancers of the mouth, pharynx, esophagus, stomach, colon and rectum. The University of Illinois reports that women, with high levels of lycopene, have a 5 times lower risk of developing cervical cancer. A high lycopene diet may even cut heart attack risk in half.
